Jonathan went to the endocrinologist last week and we have gotten the results back from his blood work. Apparently, Jonathan’s pituitary gland is doing about all it can. In the last few months, Jonathan has gained weight, but his thyroid hormone level has gone down. It looks like more than likely he will have to begin taking thryoid hormone sometime this year. He’s already on hydrocortisone (cortisol-stress hormone produced by our adrenal gland) because his body doesn’t produce enough. Thankfully, these are things that can be given by mouth. There are some things (like growth hormone and testosterone) that would have to be given by injection. However, the latter two do not affect his overall health and so we are opting not to treat those deficiencys.
